Lee ‘Scratch' Perry and Friends "People Funny Boy: The Early Upsetter Singles" Box set
Key Production is thrilled to have collaborated with Trojan Records once again to produce this 10 7" deluxe box set collection by Lee ‘Scratch' Perry and Friends with a title spearheaded by his successful hit record "People Funny Boy: The Early Upsetter Singles".
Lee ‘Scratch' Perry is a Jamaican music producer/artist, prolific for his innovative studio techniques and production style aided the notoriety of the dub music genre to international heights. Perry is considered as one of the most influential forces in the Jamaican music culture while making a name of himself by being the driving force who took Bob Marley and the Wailers to international superstar status. After years spent making his mark within the Jamaican music industry as an artist and budding producer, Perry progressed to unveil his own Upsetter Records label in the late spring of 1968. Over the months that immediately followed, his exceptional talent was repeatedly reinforced with the release a series of popular 7” singles, the most successful was his ground-breaking hit, "People Funny Boy".
In 1968, the recently launched Trojan Records acquired exclusive rights to Perry’s productions. Consequently, issuing the best of his work on the company’s flagship label, prior to creating a British version of his Upsetter imprint, the following year. This deluxe 7” box set collection amalgamates the reproductions of the first ten 45s that showcased his work in the UK, each pressed on high-quality vinyl and presented in specially created card sleeves. This set also features the stylishly designed fold-out poster-sized insert, featuring a detailed essay on Perry by the producer’s official biographer, David Katz.
