Evan Dando "Baby I'm Bored" 2LP + Book, [Fire Records]

2LP plus 24 page book + DL Card.

Emerging after The Lemonheads disbanded Evan Dando returned to music first with a solo tour and 'Live At The Brattle Theatre' then came his debut solo album 'Baby I'm Bored'. During his hiatus he sobered up, got married and went straight. Taking four years to produce, his live shows funded the album's recording sessions. Mature and autobiographical, 'Baby I'm Bored' is a stellar record that stripped Dando of his grunge label. At the time of recording, he was without the band which saw him lean more towards an achingly melodic alt-country rock sound. Self-deprecating, these are songs of decline and coming back from that. The record includes Hard Drive" and All My Life" two tracks penned by Ben Lee and features contributions from producer/composer Jon Brion, producer Bryce Goggin, Tom Morgan, Giant Sand's Howe Gelb, Calexico's John Convertino and Joey Burns, ex-Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon, Come's Chris Brokaw and Arthur Johnson. This limited edition special Record Store Day 2LP 'bookback' reissue includes a disc of unheard unreleased tracks, singles, b-sides and rarities.

"Dando has a flair for bruised melancholy that stands comparison with Gram Parsons and Alex Chilton." Q Magazine
"A beautiful album of tender reflections on life, love and drug-induced folly set in soulful, country-tinged guitar pop." The Independent

Ginger Wildheart "Clout EP" 10", [Round Records]

Limited to 1000 / White vinyl with 5 prints.

The Clout EP was something that was originally made exclusively available to subscribers of the Songs & Words Pledge, 2015, so having a genuine hard copy is a huge thrill for me, as I'm sure it will be for the listeners. The concept for the four songs was to concentrate on real life heroes, ones that me and producer Jase Edwards considered truly inspirational figures, those pioneers that shaped our past and constructed our present day. We've chosen Tony Benn, Charles Darwin, Horatio Nelson and, ultimately, you, the one able to carry on the greatness handed down by the greats. On Record Store Day, we will be asking the fans (those lucky enough to obtain one of these Clout EPs) to send me, via Twitter, the names of their own four heroes. I think this should be a very inspirational day for us all.

Track listing: Side A: Nelson; Benn - Side B: Darwin; You

Julian Cope "Drunken Songs", [Head Heritage]

1000 only, 180g black vinyl. 40 minutes of Gnostic drunkenness. The Archdrude is back with some new material. The album is just six songs of Gnostic Inebriation from around these isles. Welcome to 2017 and the age of Donald Trump. And welcome to Julian Cope's long anticipated album of drinking songs aptly entitled DRUNKEN SONGS". The record contains 6 winter warmers to enliven the dark sunless days, 6 tales of belligerent alcoholerated drunkenness as it plays out in tableaux across these British Isles. As The Beer Flows Over Me" was the catalyst for this entire project. Written by Cope for his own funeral, the song celebrates our own northern latitudes, and beseeches listeners to diss the southern lands of the grape in favour of beer, beer and lager beer. Liver Big as Hartlepool" celebrates Cope's adopted city through the metaphysical lens. On The Road to Tralee" concludes the album with 20 drunken miles of bad memories, quaint observations and rustic incidentals. Expect Cope's usual massed ranks of Mellotron 400, alongside all manner of humorous and poignant commentaries - a perfect restbite from these Trumped up troubled times. The songs are 'Drink Me Under The Table (Drink Me)', 'Liver Big As Hartlepool', 'Clonakilty As Charged', 'As The Beer Flows Over Mer', 'Don't Drink And Drive, You Might Spill Some' and the epic 20-minute Drunkarama of 'On The Road To Tralee'.

Record Store Day exclusive reissue. First time on vinyl.

Phil Odgers "Roll To The Left", [Vinyl Star]

Phil 'Swill' Odgers is well known as one half of the legendary joint vocal strike force of The Men They Couldn't Hang. He is also highly regarded as a solo singer/songwriter in his own right and this brilliantly fresh new album brings his songwriting prowess into sharp, bright, focus. Lyrically this is a collection of unique tales with cinematic imagery - from kitchen sink realism and social commentary to technicolor splendor. The album, in the main, was recorded in the studio built for Kirsty MacColl by Steve Lillywhite in their family home in Ealing. The studio resonates with musical history and Phil was also lucky enough to be able to use guitars previously owned by Kirsty. Musically the album has many levels - it takes Phil Odgers' warm melodic voice and rhythmic strumming as a starting point, adds a bit of double bass, fiddle and lead guitar in all the right places. It's never crowded. 'The Train' has a genuine Johnny Cash feel ...in fact, on that track, Swill played the actual Martin guitar once owned by Johnny Cash. 'Blue Skies And A Saturday Job' showcases the unusual combination of acoustic guitar with baritone and tenor sax whilst the albums only cover song, 'Long Stem Rose', is lovingly embraced by cornet, flugalhorn, trumpet and bass trombone. 'Mist On The Water', perhaps the fullest song on the album, has a full string arrangement with violins, violas and cellos adding extra depth. Piano and Drums also make a brief appearance but nothing is overplayed giving the entire album a beautifully understated feel. Phil Odgers and producer James Knight made a point of only using real instruments and live performances - no auto tune here, this is as real as it gets folks! These organic and passionate sessions have resulted in a magical and deeply accomplished album by the UK's most underrated singer....A full UK press campaign is under way with key reviews already confirmed in all the major magazines. Tracks 1. The Train, 2. Blue Skies And A Saturday Job, 3. No Getting Over You, 4. Mist On The Water, 5. Moving On Again, 6. Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down, 7. Too Cold For Me, 8. Long Stem Rose, 9. Tomorrow Will Be Fine, 10. Eddie Was, 11. Half Past 3.

Spacemen 3 "For All The Fucked Up Children", [Space Age]

Space Age Recordings are pleased to announce the first official limited edition vinyl release of the album "For All The Fucked Children Of This World We Give You Spacemen 3" (Sonic Boom a.ka. Peter Kember (Spectrum / E.A.R.) and Jason Pierce (Spiritualized). For All the Fucked Up Children" from the neo-psychedelic trio Spacemen 3 was first released as a bootleg record in 1995. The record consists of Spacemen 3's first ever recording session from 1984. The music itself sounds like a primitive version of what the group were to become; the dominating sound of the record is a slow, droning psychedelic blues performed with sparse instrumentation. A drum set is matched with a pair of distorted electric guitars, all of which provide a swirling foundation for Jason Pierce's vocals. The album's liner notes replicated here are actually an early review of the band by Gary Boldie, where he contemplates the city of Rugby and finds it an odd source for this new sound, and he declares Spacemen 3 as the "all singing, all dancing answer to the problems of a grey 1985." Space Age Recordings are pleased to announce an official limited edition vinyl release of the fourth and final Spacemen 3 studio album "Recurring"; the follow up to their seminal Playing with Fire" album. By the time the album was recorded, relations between the band had soured to the extent that the record is essentially in two parts; the first five tracks on side 'A' written and performed by Sonic Boom a.ka. Peter Kember (Spectrum / E.A.R.), and the last five tracks on side 'B' written and performed by Jason Pierce (Spiritualized). The lead track from the album Big City" recently featured on the season 27 premiere of 'The Simpsons' being the sound track to Homer Simpson's wild night out on the town, mixing alcohol with prescription drugs. Adjectives that come to mind are unrelenting, punishing, psychedelic. Axe Grinder / War Plague "My Plague queen/ Disease" 7" Split Single, [Easy Action]

Forming in 2008, War//Plague have been one of the most dedicated and productive DIY punk bands for the last decade. With 10 releases to date for these veteran Minneapolis punks! War//Plague combine elements of crust punk with a barrage of attacking drum hits, apocalyptic guitar riffs and vocals that are focused on the worlds horrors, self-centred materialism and shallow consumer garbage. Punk is protest!. Initially a metallic crust punk band formed 1985/86 by Trev and Matt (members of Stone The Crowz) and Jel and Steve (both in The Proudhons). Their crust/thrash style was influenced by Amebix, but has also been compared to both Motorhead and Venom. In 1987, after the Axegrinder - Grind The Enemy, drummer Jel left and was replaced by Darryn for the Axegrinder - Live demo. The band then signed with Peaceville, off the back of their Squat Tape demo, where they released the track 'Where Evil Dwells' on the Various - A Vile Peace compilation, and then recorded The Rise Of The Serpent Men. Axegrinder also contributed two tracks to the Vile Visions compilation VHS, 'Evilution' and (new song) 'Requi-Anthem', both filmed at Queens Hall, Bradford, 1990, by which time Cliff Evans had joined the band. Axegrinder folded in 1991. While Evans formed death metal band Flesh. The other four members promptly formed Voivod-clones Wartech. In 2016 the band reformed and went into the studio to record ......

Beverley Martyn "Picking Up The Sunshine" 7", [Fly]

In 1966 singer-songwriter BEVERLEY began recording sessions with record producer DENNY CORDELL. Cordell’s preferred studio musicians for the sessions included Jimmy Page & John Renbourn (guitars), John Paul Jones (bass), Alan White (drum), Nicky Hopkins (piano), Mike Lease (organ), and an album’s worth of material was laid down.

The recordings included her own songs, some of which remained unreleased until she re-recorded them years later with her the husband John Martyn, and a choice selection of songs written by Randy Newman and Donovan alongside blues staples such as ‘Me and My Gin’ and ‘Stormy Monday Blues’. Both her debut 45 ‘Happy New Year’ and follow-up ‘Museum’ – released In 1966 and 1967 respectively - were critically acclaimed but failed to make any impression in the charts on either side of the Atlantic. BEVERLEY went to California in April 1967 as a guest of Paul Simon and performed at the seminal MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL. On her return to England she and Cordell disagreed on the direction her music was being take and her album was shelved. 50 years later those session tapes have been located and restored, showcasing a moment in the sixties which in hindsight radiates a vivaciousness and energy which criminally evaded a wider public audience. Until now. As a taster for the forthcoming release of Beverley’s long lost album this exclusive Record Store Day release presents two previously unreleased tracks which are exclusive to this special edition. ‘Picking Up The Sunshine’ was written for Beverley by Donovan. ‘Me and My Gin’ is a blues staple with Page and Hopkins in their element. This release features special stereo mixes of take 1’s of both cuts and are exclusive to this release and won’t be included in the forthcoming album.

Broken Dog "Flips" (Selected B- Sides + Rarities 1996-2004) LP 180gm, 500 copies worldwide, [Tongue Master]
"Martine Roberts' breathy tones remind you of an anglicised Julee Cruise" MOJO

Broken Dog were Clive Painter and Martine Roberts, an ethereal, mysterious, experimental London outfit, melding star splintered dust whispered breath with ice, fire, gentle groove, spike and stagger of guitar. Martine and Clive's rich musical influence also made its mark via an array of collaborations with other experimental bands of the period from the hub of their home studio Animal, including Tram, Monograph, Pacific Radio, The 99 Call And The Real Tuesday Weld. As Broken Dog they gifted us with their unique strain of sublime, reflective lo-fi: a hypnotic folk psychedelia. Whilst sounding like nothing else, Martine's breathy vocals and Clive's complex guitar tapestries saw them often favourably bracketed in with the spirit of bands from ,across the water such as Mazzy Star and Trespassers William. 'FLIPS (selected b-sides + rarities 1996-2004)' stands as a long testament to their rich understated palette of diverse moods and sublime melancholia, from hushed instrumentals such as 'Blue Star Fading' and 'Rachael' to the dreamy blissed out moments of 'In A Head' or 'I'll Think Of It Today'. There are also 4 great covers included here: Big Star's 'Big Black Car', The Kinks 'Lazy Old Sun', The Left Banke's 'Sing Little Bird Sing' and The Band's 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down'. This is a very limited edition vinyl pressing, a fitting testament to great hidden treasure of a band. DMM mastered at Abbey Road By Alex Wharton.

Tracklisting
Side 1: Wireless, Slope, Sing Little Bird Sing, Someone/Where Else, Big Black Car, Blue Star Fading, Two Halves Of A Whole, I'll Think Of It Today...
Side 2: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Blue Formation, In A Head, Silent Mostly, Drifting, Lazy Old Sun, Rachael, Dried Up Well.

Christopher Lee "Metal Knight" 10", [Charlemagne]

Limited to 500 / Picture disc. Christopher Lee recorded this release at the age of 92. This Extended Play Vinyl is appropriately called 'Metal Knight'. Sir Christopher was well-known for his devotion to fantasy and heavy metal themes, with several album releases and collaborations in the genre to his name. Having started his second career working with the Italian Symphonic Metal band 'Rhapsody of Fire' over a decade ago .I associate heavy metal with fantasy because of the tremendous power that the music delivers". The star of 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Star Wars' sagas inspired generations of artists, with his dark, yet elegant portrayals back in the late 50's and 60's. His interpretation of 'Dracula', is considered by many to be the quintessential. 'The Wicker Man' and 'The Man with the Golden Gun', being other movies which inspired metal songs. In June 2010, he received the 'Spirit of Metal' at the 'Golden Gods Awards' from Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) for his work in 'Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross' and his contribution to metal themes on the silver screen. In Christmas 2013, his rendition of 'Jingle Hell' (Bells) achieved number 18 in the Billboard Charts, making him the oldest performer (91) ever to chart. 'Metal Knight' is an EP featuring 4 tracks, two of which are covers from the 'Man of La Mancha' musical, based on the character 'Don Quixote'. As far as I am concerned, Don Quixote is the most metal fictional character that I know. Single handed, he is trying to change the world, regardless of any personal consequences. Fleur De Lys "I Can See The Light: The Fleur De Lys Singles Box Set", [Acid Jazz]

The Fleur De Lys were in the thick of the swinging sixties music scene. Held in high regard by their rock star contemporaries and adoring public alike, but frustratingly fame and fortune never called. Initially formed in 1964 as a beat band, surviving through the excesses of psychedelia, before evolving into a Stax tinged soul outfit, their output was constant and outstanding. Whilst finding time to record under pseudonyms (Rupert's People, Shyster and Chocolate Frog), become the backing band for the late soul sensation Sharon Tandy, and fulfil commitments as in-house session band for the UK Atlantic label, The Fleur De Lys released seven 45s over a five year period; these singles are considered holy grails amongst record devotees.

If it weren't for the luxury of putting on that scratchy copy of The Raincoats' first record, I would have had very few moments of peace. Kurt Cobain. // Side 1 Fairytale in the supermarket Side 2 In love, Adventures close to home.
