Generation Harmonia Mundi Limited Edition CD Boxset

The Label

Harmonia Mundi was born in 1958: sixty years and several thousand recordings later, they continue to affirm their identity and singularity with insolent vitality. Harmonia Mundi brings together more than fifty renowned international artists in the classical music world; in 2018, Harmonia Mundi welcomes six new headliners and release 52 new recordings, including 9 devoted to another anniversary, that of Claude Debussy Since 2017. Harmonia Mundi has hosted a dozen young talents (singers, instrumentalists or ensembles from all over the world) in its new Harmonia Nova collection, a particularly promising nursery already in the run-up to a Victoire de la Musique in February 2018. Having become an integral part of the group [PIAS] since October 1st, 2015, Harmonia Mundi also celebrates a real re-birth thanks to its installation in the heart of the ancient Roman city - more precisely, on the site of an old monastery founded in the year 512 by Archbishop Césaire.

Harmonia Mundi is today the oldest independent label of classical music. Long focused on early music, it has gradually diversified and today explores all the repertoires of early music to 21st century music. The recent creation of the WorldVillage, JazzVillage and LittleVillage (youth) labels show that the diversity, openness and curiosity that prevailed at the founding of the label are still present after 60 years of production.

Generation Harmonia Mundi - 1. The Age of Revolutions 1958 - 1988 Limited Edition

To celebrate their 60 years of activity, Harmonia Mundi has released 2 commemorative CD boxsets to showcase classical artists and composers. This first volume invites you to relive the highlights of the first 30 years of the label and pays tribute to the artists who built Harmonia Mundi on the heights of Saint-Michel-de-Provence, leading with a passionate quest for excellence a real revolution in the world of early music.

Generation Harmonia Mundi - 2. The Family Spirit 1988 - 2018 Limited Edition

Over the past sixty years, several families of musicians have written the history of Harmonia Mundi. This second installment volume covers 1988-2018: after the success of Atys and the St Matthew Passion, the Arles years saw those families branching out and opening up to new generations with a consistency clearly visible in the artistic policy – the passion for excellence, and a certain sincerity of interpretation too, as may be seen notably in Haydn’s Seasons. As well as filiations, this set gives examples of musical chemistry, encounters, new paths for exploration and even the odd amusing deviation from the norm . . . A unique and exciting story!
